Malala Yousafazi has done something that not many people would be
brave enough to do. She was targeted by the Taliban and shot in the head
for writing a blog for BBC detailing her life under the Taliban's rule.
Malala was fighting for girls' education. She wanted
education more than anything. She loves school, and she is an excellent student. She was targeted because she attended a anti-Taliban protest and
spoke with a reporter that she saw there. She told him that what she wants the most is
to continue in school, and that she isn't afraid of anyone. Under the control of the Taliban, women are discouraged or denied the ability to attend schools. As inspiration, Malala carried a biography of
Benazir Bhutto, the former female prime minister of Pakistan, as well as a book by Barack Obama.
Ever since Malala, girls are afaid to go to school. The girls even refused to have schools named after
Malala because they were afraid of the Taliban targeting them as well. The literacy rate in Pakistan is already so
low that these girls should be encouraged to stay in school. They're scared that
they’re going to be the next Malala, shot on a bus.
